Constellation as Systemic Therapy

This arrangement is not fixed—it changes with time and the position of the observer—yet when viewed as a whole, it reveals an underlying order and meaning.

Inspired by this concept, family constellation works in a similar way. Just like stars in the sky, family members are part of a larger system, in which each person holds a certain place and exerts influence on the others. Here too, forces operate within the system, such as love, loyalty, conflict, and dynamics of power or control. Each family member occupies a position in the family field, and together they form an interconnected whole whose dynamics arise from mutual influence.

In a family constellation session, therapist and client explore these systemic relationships to understand how they shape the client’s life. The method helps uncover patterns that are often unconscious: dynamics rooted in past trauma, hidden loyalties to family members, or roles that were taken on in ways that do not fit the individual.

In this way, family constellation allows the client to perceive the broader systemic picture - he “constellation” of their family, much like looking at the stars to see the pattern they form together. It helps reveal the invisible forces at work, offering pathways to release blockages, shift roles, or repair dynamics that hinder the flow of life. When balance is restored, the family system can function with greater harmony, just as a constellation of stars creates a meaningful pattern in the night sky.
