Coping with traumas:

A family constellation can help a person process and release past traumas, such as abuse, an accident, or the death of a loved one.

Family Constellation is a powerful method for processing and releasing personal traumas, such as abuse, accidents, or the loss of a loved one. By creating a “representational field” in which representatives are placed for significant figures or elements from the traumatic event, the person can observe from the outside – not only what happened, but also what was not understood or accessible to them in real time. The process allows the body and mind to process frozen emotions, reconstruct experiences of disconnection or confusion, and restore a forgotten inner voice.

Often, the guilt that accompanies a traumatic event is rooted in a deeper wound that originates in the past – sometimes as early as childhood, and sometimes as part of an intergenerational pattern. In Constellation, we will also examine what happened in the family – were there similar cases of loss, blame, repression or silence – and allow the pattern to surface and become clear.

For example, a woman who had been in a serious car accident in which her brother was killed, has since felt a deep sense of guilt – as if she was the one who should have died. In a Constellation session, representatives were placed in the field for her, for her brother, and for “death.” Through their interactions, she was able to hear, for the first time, a loving message from her brother: “I chose to go – you are not to blame.” It was later discovered that her grandfather had also lost a brother in the accident, and since then a sense of unresolved grief has been evident in the family. This understanding allowed her to release the burden that was not hers, and to choose life anew, with compassion and inner freedom.
